Well what a first six months we have had. We have sent a container to West
Papua, East Timor and Samoa. With Samoa we are computerizing the whole education
system in this nation. Pre, Primary, High and College.
Our Tech has just returned he is so impressed with the project he has offered
to join the Club. He will be spending 4 to 6 months of the year overseas training
locals in maintaining the computer we send to them.
We are now looking to installing a local network (not the WWW) as the churches
have a large say and they are not in favour of the WWW. So we are looking at
installing a intranet (local) only.
We have since December 26th 2004 sent 3x20 foot and 3x40 foot containers
to Sri Lanka with a variety of items to help with the reconstruction. Another
40' was sent in December 2005
This project has earned us a nomination for a Lions International Award. We
are one of three finalists for this award which will be presented at the Hong
Kong convention. We have also received an outstanding club banner patch from our district.
Being nominated is in itself a tremendous buzz for the club and I thank those
who thought enough of the project to nominate us for it. We have now received a Merit award from International for our efforts.
The club has also been nominated for a Prime Ministers Award for our Work for
the Dole Project we run.
2006 For Cyclone relief we have dispatched over 95 metric tonnes to Innisfail
where Lion Neil Clark (mayor) has distributed it to the comunity.
2007 ... 3 containers of Aid has been sent to Boganville Island at the
end of the Papua/New Guinea
Commited ourselves to send 200 Hospital beds to Ghana this is a joint effort with the Austalian Royal College of Surgeons to raise funds to build the hospital and send the beds and other equipment. Freight cost will be in the vicinity of $50,000 Australian.
This project was finished in 2008.
8 containers went to Nkawkaw in Ghana to a hospital run by the Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters. Sister K Collins in Brisbane said when told the project was finished "God Bless the Lions...

This Computer Aid Project has been in existance with the Mac User Grooup for 10 Years and is now a Lions Project.
Our most recent containeer is being dispatched on 15th April to Uganda. this was a joint effort with another Lions Club,
We work via the Smith family supplying computers. This project is large as there are 1600 clients in the area we are to service in South-East Queensland
We have 4 Work for the Dole Projects on the go at the moment and have successfully completed 6 in the last 18 months. this raises the money to send containeers overseas.
